January 8, 2016 - Spradley Ford Can Help You with Buying a Car with Your Tax Refund

Are you getting a big tax refund this year?  Tax season can be extremely stressful for some taxpayers, but for those that will be receiving a large refund, it can feel like winning the lottery!  When deciding what you are going to do with this financial windfall, have you considered buying a used car?  If not, perhaps you should.

Buying a used car with a tax refund is a smart choice if you have been considering making a car purchase in the New Year.  For many people, the tax refund is like free money and it can be tempting to splurge on non-essential items or a vacation.  While this is all well and good, putting that money toward a used car is probably a wiser investment for the long term.  And Spradley Ford Lincoln can help you chose wisely.

July 30, 2015 - The 2015 Ford Escape

For several years now, the Ford Escape has been a top-selling compact crossover vehicle, and after reading this, you'll know why so many people are choosing this SUV over a number of similar vehicles on the market.

History of the Ford Escape

The first generation Ford Escape was released in 2000 for the 2001 model year. It was developed jointly with Mazda, in which Ford owned a controlling interest, and it was released at the same time as the Mazda Tribute. If you're shopping around for a high quality used Ford at an affordable price, you'll find it here at Spradley Ford in Pueblo, Colorado.

The second generation Ford Escape debuted at the 2006 Los Angeles International Auto Show, and a new concept version for the Asian market, called the Ford Escape Adventure Concept, was revealed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show; it featured a redesigned front and rear fascia which incorporated Ford's three-bar grille system and redesigned LED tail lamps.

The current generation of the Ford Focus (2012 to present), was revealed at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show and is based on the new Global C platform by the Ford company. What does that mean, exactly? Recent models offer Two EcoBoost® inline four-cylinder turbocharged engines, and the Escape is the first Ford vehicle to offer a 1.6-liter engine. Ford states that the fuel efficiency of the new 1.6L EcoBoost® engine matches that of the previous Ford Escape Hybrid, while the new 2.0-liter engine produces more horsepower than the current V6 unit. The transmission is a six-speed automatic, and the new generation Escape is 10% more aerodynamic than previous years.

May 26, 2015 - The 2015 Ford F-150

The new 2015 Ford F-150 was completely redesigned for the 2015 model year. When you hear that a vehicle has been redesigned, you might think of some new body lines thrown into the mix, sometimes the redesign is much more drastic like that of Ford several years back, but with the new 2015 Ford F-150 the new design is bigger than anything you have ever seen before. The F-150 design team didn't created a whole new look for pickup trucks. Everything we love about the F-150 design are still there with a few more styling cues than before. The difference in the F-150 model is in its use of a high strength steel frame and aluminum body panels. This is the first truck to make extensive use of the panels and the effect is making a huge difference.

Interior - 2015 Ford F-150

The interior of the F-150 is still what you might be used to from the previous models. You can have your choice of interiors that match your style and the amount of work vs play that you intend to do in your F-150. The base models which are the typical choice of those who plan to use their F-150 primarily for getting to, from and around the work-site are designed to be cost effective while still maintaining a stylish appeal and good durable quality. Of course for those who are more interested in the F-150 for weekend trips to the lake, some of the higher trim levels offer you the kind of interior that is more likely to make you think that you are behind the wheel of a luxury vehicle rather than a tough pickup truck. We have all trims levels available at Spradley Ford.

Exterior - 2015 Ford F-150

You will notice that the exterior of the F-150 hasn't changed all that much. Most of the design cues that have made the F-150 America's most popular truck is still much the same. You will still find the front end bestowed with the extra large grille and the hood lines that flow directly from the grille peak to make a performance looking machine. The changes in the exterior styling are a bit of a wider stance which, again, adds to the aggressive look of the F-150 and keeps the rugged purpose of a pickup truck firmly in your mind no matter what you plan to use your F-150 to accomplish. The cabin also has a couple of extra inches of space thanks to the more narrow doors.

Powertrain - 2015 Ford F-150

As far as its power and performance, you can get a whole lot more with a whole lot less in the new 2015 Ford F-150. While the base engine has been downsized to a 3.5 liter V6 which is more efficient than the current 3.7 liter you will still enjoy enhanced acceleration and plenty of power thanks to the lighter body and frame which take a whole lot of strain off of the engine. For those who are really looking for the ultimate in performance and power you can go even smaller. Yes that's right, the engine that Ford is putting up as the competitor for the other guys V8 engines is a 2.7 liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6. Smart engineering will always beat out the "throw more displacement at it" philosophy when it comes to modern trucks.

Mechanically - 2015 Ford F-150

Mechanically the performance of the 2015 F-150 is one of the most improved areas that you will find in the new design. While there have certainly been some changes under the sheet metal, perhaps the biggest change of all that will affect the mechanical performance of the new F-150 is the sheet metal itself. The new F-150 is the first truck to be manufactured with an aluminum body. When you take this aluminum body and place it on a lighter weight yet ultra strong high strength steel frame you get one of the lightest trucks that you could imagine. Some models have lost more than 700 pounds from last years models. This light weight not only helps to make the new F-150 one of the most fuel efficient full size trucks ever, it also keeps the workload of the suspension much lighter.

Safety - 2015 Ford F-150

All this hype about lighter body panels and frames might get some people questioning whether the 2015 Ford F-150 will be able to hold its own when it comes to crash worthiness. The short answer is, of course it will. You don't have to be a structural engineer to understand that a string material requires much less actual material to achieve the same types of strength that a weaker material offers. That's where the usage of advanced structural aluminum and ultra high strength steels giving the F-150 the kind of strength that you would expect from a truck of this pedigree and still the kind of light weight that the modern fuel economy expects. Of course, the F-150 will still offer you all of the active and passive safety features that you could want as well.

May 20, 2015 - Five Reasons to Care About Worn Shocks & Struts

Don't let the weather wreak havoc on your car's suspension.

Winter can be rough on your car's suspension, and spring (hello, potholes!) can make it even worse. Here's what can happen if you ignore some key warning signs-and tips on when to have your shocks and struts replaced, to help keep you cruising into summer.

When your shocks or struts become worn down, your vehicle "jounces" more over bumps, which means it bounces up and down. This makes braking more difficult and could significantly increase your stopping distance. So take note: If your vehicle is taking longer than usual to stop, or if it is nose-diving when you do so (another sign of decreased traction), have your vehicle checked at Spradley Ford Lincoln.  A suspension check is part of the Multi-Point Inspection included in The Works package; during the inspection Ford technicians will ensure that all possible pothole-related damage is assessed, and you'll have less to worry about.

Watch out for an exaggerated "body roll" when you turn corners-this is when you feel yourself and your vehicle tilting a bit more than normal, which can be a sign of damaged shocks or struts. If that's happening to you, take your vehicle in for a suspension check right away, because excessive body roll can affect your ability to safely steer around obstructions in the road.

Getting jostled on your journey is not only uncomfortable, it can affect your ability to safely control your vehicle. Try a quick bounce test at home by pushing down firmly on the front and rear of your vehicle. If the car moves up and down more than once or twice, have your shocks and struts checked at Spradley Ford Lincoln.

When struts or shocks are worn out, your tires wear out faster. A damaged strut or shock can also contribute to quicker wear on the other steering components of the vehicle, like rods and wheel bearings. If you notice a rumbling or increased vibrations at higher speeds, have a Ford auto technician look for "cupping" on your tires, which is a type of scalloped wear pattern associated with struts and shocks. Cupping happens when your car jounces up and down, leaving indented scuff marks on the tires, and is a big red flag that your suspension needs repairing.

Worn shocks and struts can affect the way your wheels engage with the road, especially when roads are slick. If your vehicle is sliding or hydroplaning frequently, get your suspension checked at Spradley Ford Lincoln now.

Contact the Spradley Ford Service Department for more information and/or to schedule a service appointment at (719) 545-3673.  We also have a QuickLane where there is no appointment neccesary.  Ask about all of our Ford service specials.  Spradley Ford, in Pueblo, Colorado, we can service any make and model.

May 14, 2015 - The Recycled Truck

Here at Spradley Ford in Pueblo, Colorado, we realize that businesses and consumers alike are becoming more and more eco-conscious in every aspect of their day to day lives and that reducing fuel consumption and emissions is one of the first thing many of us think of when trying to become more environmentally friendly with our vehicles. However, for many people, a small electric or hybrid car is simply not an option. There's a reason the Ford F-150 is the best selling vehicle in America. Some absolutely need a truck for work and other simply can't make it the places they want to go, like many Colorado residents who enjoy spending time in the mountains, in a 2wd hybrid.

Thankfully, there are other ways to become more sensitive to our impact on the environment and still get behind the wheel of a full sized truck. Ford recognized the environmental problems they were contributing to, so they committed themselves to reducing the weight of the F-150 by constructing the body with aluminum rather than steel. A lighter truck means significantly boosted fuel economy. An aluminum truck means more recycling. Although aluminum is more expensive than steel, it is 95% recyclable, so more recycled materials are used instead of mining for raw ore to produce more. Additionally, every bit of scrap that is left over from making the body panels is recycled again and returned to the plant, reducing waste a second time around.

So be sure you always recycle your household aluminum. There's a chance it could end up in your next truck!  Spradley Ford has a good selection of the new 2015 Ford F-150's available with a variety of options, in the regular cab, extended cab and crew cab.
